What is Arm Lift Surgery?
Arm lift surgery, or brachioplasty, is a procedure that aims to reshape and contour the upper arms. It is commonly sought by individuals who have excess skin, fat, or sagging in this area, often due to factors like aging, weight loss, or genetics.
The surgery addresses the effects of aging, weight fluctuations, and gravity that can lead to arm drooping and a loss of body symmetry. While exercise alone may not correct these issues, Vaser Liposuction can be a potential solution for addressing excess fat and improving the appearance of drooping. However, in more advanced cases of drooping, traditional liposuction may not be suitable. In such instances, the excess drooping skin can be removed through an incision that runs from the elbow to the armpit. Alternatively, for milder cases, a Mini Arm Stretching surgery can be performed using a small incision under the arm.
If you are bothered by the sagging appearance of your arms, you may be a candidate for arm lift surgery, also known as brachioplasty. This procedure is suitable for individuals who have excess skin and sagging in the upper arm area, which can be caused by factors such as aging, weight loss, or genetics. This excess skin can create a “batwing” appearance that may affect your self-confidence. By undergoing an arm lift surgery, you can address this concern and achieve a more toned and contoured appearance in your arms.
Before undergoing arm lift surgery, it is important to have open and thorough communication with your doctor. It is recommended to share all your expectations and concerns during your consultation. During the examination, provide detailed answers to any questions about your overall health condition and inform your doctor about any past illnesses or medical conditions you have had, as well as the medications you are currently taking. This information will help your doctor assess your candidacy for the surgery and develop an appropriate treatment plan tailored to your specific needs.
Your surgery to be performed in our hospital will be carried out under general anesthesia. Its approximate duration may change between 30 minutes to 3 hours as to the type of surgery, you will need to stay at the hospital for an overnight.
Before undergoing arm lift surgery, you will undergo an examination and consultation with an anesthesiologist. The anesthesiologist will provide you with important information and instructions related to the anesthesia process. As part of the preparation, your doctor will advise you to discontinue the use of blood-thinning medications, vitamins, and substances that can affect anesthesia, such as alcohol and smoking. It is crucial to follow your doctor’s guidance and cease these medications and substances as instructed. This will help ensure a safe surgical procedure and minimize any potential risks or complications.
After arm lift surgery, it is common to experience mild pain, but it can be managed with appropriate pain medication. Your surgeon may recommend wearing a compression garment, such as a corset, continuously for about 4 weeks to support the healing process and minimize swelling.
Around the 5th day after the surgery, the first medical dressing will be applied to the incision sites. It is normal to experience numbness, swelling (edema), and bruising during the initial recovery period. These symptoms will gradually improve over time as your body heals.
In terms of returning to your normal activities, most individuals can typically resume their work life within one week after the surgery, depending on the nature of their job and their individual healing process.
To further enhance the recovery process, your surgeon may recommend additional treatments such as LPG or VelaShape III, which involve vacuum massage techniques. These treatments can promote collagen synthesis and help optimize the results of the arm lift surgery.
Remember to follow your surgeon’s post-operative instructions closely, attend follow-up appointments, and allow yourself adequate rest and recovery time for the best possible outcome. Each person’s recovery process may vary, so it’s important to consult with your surgeon for personalized guidance and recommendations.
